We called into Grans in Toome on way home from Ballymena for a bite to eat, id been here previously about 2 years ago and the food was excellent and place was buzzing. But today however it was quiet at lunchtime albeit it was a Monday and might have been quiet for that reason. I found the place to be very dull and bland in appearance, mind u it might have been due to lack of people and hustle and bustle i experienced there was on my last visit, this is my honest review: Restaurant: I found it to be dull and bland, the brown dark colour scheme has some how lost its modern edge and could do with a bright makeover, the wall decor was unsightly, just cant see how they thought alot of used frying pans would add a touch of interest to that wall, I was sat directly under them, they absolutely done nothing for the place, scruffy dirty looking frying pans on a wall, well I suppose people see it as art. The tables had glass tops, all well worn, but that showed signs of a busy place but unfortunately their cleaning wasnt on point, the decor didnt put me off but what did was the dirty table and under the glass around the edge was disgustingly dirty, tbh it needed a steam clean, other tables looked similar scratched tops with no shine, I found the appearance of the tables to be disappointing, glass cleaner and a clean cloth was needed Staff: Staff were friendly and promptly took my order, the young lady was pleasant and efficient Food: I ordered a Triple decker toasted sandwich with lettuce, tomato, egg, chicken, bacon & mayo, i asked for a few onions to be added as well, it was presented well on the plate and looked and tasted lovely, it was a hugh sandwich made with thick white bread (I requested white bread) which made the sandwich massive, it was very tasty but filling, the chicken was lovely, it was lovely fresh chicken, the bacon bits were crispy, the sandwich was delicious so top marks for that. I also ordered a pot of tea with my meal Cost: I think the sandwich was £8 and the tea possibly £2 the total was £10 for my bill Comment: When paying i was asked was everything ok and I said the food was lovely and if I was to point out anything I think the tables could do with a good clean, to which she replied "ohh" she was a young lady and maybe just thought i was making a fuss, I'm not sure if she conveyed the message to her manager or not. Overall view: The food was lovely, price was ok but the Grans could do with a wee lick of paint and a some attention to cleaning, would I go back..... maybe id give it another go in the future every business can have bad days i suppose
